Purple Tree Café is a non-profit organization in Davis, California that creates community-based employment for people with disabilities and brings people with and without disabilities together through food, art, and music. We presently offer handcrafted vegan and wheat-free baked goods and organic iced tea and other beverages at the Davis Farmers Market and other public and private events. We often serve from our signature bicycle-driven coffee cart -- an icon in our bike friendly city. We also sponsor music events featuring performers with and without disabilities. We plan to continue to expand opportunities to provide employment, food, fun, and a welcoming space for all —

As a person with a disability, I have had difficulty finding employment. Purple Tree Cafe is important to me because it gives me and other people with disabilities the opportunity to have jobs in the community.

Did you know we love to Hoot?
In addition to creating community based employment opportunities for people with disabilities, we love to create inclusive spaces through food, music, and art. Purple Tree proudly hosts the Davis Hootenanny which begins with a performance by the Team Davis Singers, an inclusive singing group followed by an open mic where all are welcome to share their talent. These evenings are capped of with performances by guest artists like Dave Nachmanoff, Cold Shot, and many more. Check our calendar to find out when we next hoot!

During the COVID-19 pandemic, we congregated via Zoom to continue singing together and also began creating our own music under the guidance of local musician Dave Nachmanoff! We are always looking for new ways to come together through music, food, and art, and writing music as a team has been a pandemic silver lining.

Our passion for food is matched by our passion for sustainability. Our bakery menu is entirely vegan because we want to share high quality, sustainable products with everyone. Choosing vegan options doesn't mean missing out on flavor!
Vegan baking also allows us to exercise our creativity. We are constantly experimenting with new ingredients and recipes which provides learning opportunities for us all. You'll love our old favorites - date nut bars, peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, chocolate raspberry cookies, and lemon blueberry scones, and we'll always continue to innovate - creating classic treats without animal products and vegan items you've never seen before.
